iSpot sA will vanish this evening. Users will be able to use the Global iSpot site by 21h00 - go to the southern Africa community. However, southern African data will take 48 hours to transfer and be unavailable during this time - So do not be alarmed - they will return!History: HELP! * * Details * * Iconic Images * * Banner Page * * Check your User Name!
Please do not upload southern African observations to the Global Site yet: the habitats are not loaded and will be wrong and incompatible for the subcontinent!
Rather than upload to the new system a week of debugging on an offline system will take place. Migration to the Global site is therefore rescheduled for on 2-3 December (from the original date of 16/17 November. Hopefully this will mean less glitches.
A dry run of the upgrade is busy taking place (22-23 November) to test for glitches. Hopefully most will be ironed out before the 26th
Kevin.McLeod Thu 2014/11/20 19:54 - A short update: The merge did not go ahead yesterday, as we discovered a major bug in the new add/edit observation form. Richard is fixing this now, and we are intending to run the data migration test over the weekend.
The dry run will not affect the site (although it might slow down uploads for 48 hours), but the transfer will require the ZA site to be offline for 48 hours for transfer and testing.

If you have accounts on both sites (this and at www.ispotnature.org) then please make sure that your email accounts are the same on both sites. This will ensure that you will keep the username currently on the Global site, and that all your observations, social points, reputation and badges are retained.
Please make sure that the username you wish to retain is on the global site. (But you can always change it in the future)
If you dont have an account on the Global site:
- if your username is occupied on the Global site you will be allocated a new username.
- if it is unallocated you will keep your username.
You can check on the global site if you want, and if the name is occupied, why not change it to what you would like it to be soon.
There is no need to create an account on the global site if you do not have one already!
If you have usernames on both sites that are different and want to keep them different, then please make sure that they have different email accounts. Go to one of the sites and change the account. Note that this will mean that any observations and comments will not be able to be joined to the same user in the future.
This is not recommended and if you wish to pool your points and reputation and badges, please ensure that the two email addresses are the same as soon as possible.
This is done in your profile: s Afr: click on my profile in your login block.
Global: http://www.ispotnature.org/user (after logging in).
in both cases, click the edit tab (and save afterwards)
Please watch this space for further requests and updates.

With the iSpot sAfr site preparing to move to the iSpot sAfr community on the Global site on 2-3rd December, please make sure that you are happy with your profile here!
Note: for transfer & testing the site will be unavailable for 48 hours (on about various dates starting 16-17 Nov, but to 2-3 Dec). The test run is still busy and the transfer has been deferred to sort out bugs.
