We have hit 40 000 Observations on Thursday 03 January 2013 at 13h16 with caspervanzyl's observation of Intensely Red Aloe - Entabeni Forest at Entabeni Forest.

Thank you everyone for helping achieve this milestone.

With over 5239 species of plants identified with photographs, and 460 species of insects illustrated, 451 species of birds identified by photo, 192 reptiles and amphibians species photographically documented, 172 lichens and fungi named and photographed, 160 species of scorpions and spiders definitively depicted, 132 mammals species recorded, and many others, why would one need to use any other resource: this is the one site that has it all for southern Africa! Your one-stop-shop for biodiversity on the subcontinent!
(These are conservative estimates based on dictionary names: valid IDs not present in the dictionary are not included, nor are valid IDs to genus or family level)

This is truly amazing: thank you everyone for making this happen in less than 20 months.

Happy New 2013 - and hope your 2013 will be a great one!
