Please join us for a bioblitz* at Papenkuils wetland (https://goo.gl/maps/rzE2f4vBaPk) on Saturday, 15 October from 9.00 to 15.00.
The Papenkuils wetland is one of the largest wetlands along the Breede River system (872 ha) with valuable functions as a wetland, including its endangered vegetation type (Breede Alluvium Fynbos), making it an irreplaceable ecological cornerstone to conservation efforts in the Western Cape. In 2014, Dr. D. Kotze found up to 7 IUCN red-listed plant species in the wetland, and since then we have been wondering what else we could find there.
We wish to further develop the interest of stakeholders around the importance and conservation of the Papenkuils wetland, and you could help with this by joining us for the day (however short or long) to collect information on its biological diversity. If species identification is not your thing, not to worry! We would appreciate if you would hone your photographic skills to help us collect media we could use to showcase the biodiversity of the wetland.
Families are most welcome to join. We will be hosting a base camp for support at the entrance. We welcome support and involvement from groups and individuals to exhibit specimens found in the wetland in creating an engaging learning event (contact me if you have equipment that you could bring along to help).
