The Mesa Vede National Park is located just northeast of the Four Corners, where the boundaries of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona meet. Mesa Verde (Green Table) is a plateau 29km long and the elevation is 2612m (8571ft) at the highest point to 1830m (6000ft) at the bottom of the canyons. This cultural park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. Ancestral Puebloans and Pueblo people built dwellings on the mesa-top and in the cliffs between AD 550 and 1300.

This National Park supports 4 major plant communities within the semi- arid and Transitional and Upper Soriora Live Zones: Shrub-steppe Community; Pinyon juniper woodland (also known as 'pygmy forest' as the trees are usually < 9m tall); Mountain Shrub Community and the Gambel Oak-Douglas-Fir Woodland. In 2000 lightening strikes caused fires burning great numbers of pinon pines, junipers and Gambel oaks. Although annuals soon repopulated the burned areas, followed by native perennial grasses then the herbaceous plants, it is estimated that it may take 200 to 300 years for the climax community of pinon-juniper woodlands to reestablish.

The aim of this project is to group together the postings made in this National Park.
