Observation - Ground beetle (Carabidae) - Poecilus - Global. Description: In grass on meadow edge, close to By Brook. Using keys in Martin Luff's RES handbook I'm reasonably confident that this is Poecilus (first three segments of antennae are faintly keeled - pics 2 & 3). Using keys in Martin Luff's RES handbook I'm reasonably confident that this is Poecilus (first three segments of antennae are faintly keeled - pics 2 & 3). There appear to be eight setae on the inner side of the hind tibia (pic 4) which could be P. cupreus or P. versicolor. However the setae are finer than those on the outer margin and there appears to be very fine pitting between the eyes, so I'm going to go with P. cupreus.
