There is still only one other post of this delightful fungus in iSpot. Today, as with every few months, I checked the site again. It is doing OK but I suspect it is slowly disappearing.
Unusual in that it belongs in Australisia but obviously has been introduced in the UK. This must be the case here too. I do know that there was some Conservation activity at this site about 12 years ago, so it's possible that spore arrived with equipment or baggage.
Either way, it is a surprising fungus, bright red to the point of scarlet, a hollow structure and up golf-ball sized. Even here it is seen by only a few, yet is very close the road and visible from the car - if you look.
Picture four is taken at a different time - I did not want to break one open for this sequence.
