Observation - Furbelows. Description: One of the easiest Seaweeds to ID. Enormous by any standards and often stranded. Quite distinctive in many respects. It is usually very big when stranded and often attached a piece of rock. It comes in three or four distinct parts - ♦ the bellows - P

One of the easiest Seaweeds to ID. Enormous by any standards and often stranded. Quite distinctive in many respects.
It is usually very big when stranded and often attached a piece of rock.
It comes in three or four distinct parts -
♦ the bellows - Picture 3
♦ the holdfast - Picture 4
♦ a kind of warty blip-cushion - picture 5
♦ the frond-ends - picture 6.
Any one of those can be washed up separately.
It has huge and robust stems, up to 4 or 5m long.
The frilly and contorted lower appendages on the stems are like bellows but I'm not certain they gave it its name.
