World Environment Day 2021: Ecosystem Restoration - how can iSpotnature help to Reimagine. Recreate. Restore? - Global :

Today, June 5, is celebrated globally as World Environment Day (WED); and this year focuses on Ecosystem Restoration. As we are aware, ecosystems support all life on earth and the healthier they are the better for us and all the biodiversity they support. The 2021 theme encourages us to act; assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact. How can iSpotnature help to  Reimagine. Recreate. Restore our ecosystems?

Celebrated every year since 1974, WED is acknowledged as an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments, renew and build resolve in overcoming the environmental challenges facing the world today. For example, last year Biodiversity was the theme with the campaign slogan Time for Nature focusing on combating the accelerating species loss and degradation of the natural world.

The Covid-19 pandemic makes this even more relevant as we all appreciate the connection between human health, our well-being and the environment. This year’s spotlight on ecosystems also marks the launch of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030. Interested in looking at the bigger picture while acknowledging the role of individual and collective action in the restoration effort? See a useful WED guide here:

Recording biodiversity plays an important role and we can rise to the #GenerationRestoration challenge continuing what we do with renewed interest and energy. Last year on this day the iSpot team, reflecting on our relationship with the natural world, iSpotnature and the role of citizen science, hosted a webinar:  Biodiversity and citizen science: connecting with nature. Watch it yourself and share your thoughts in the comments below on how we, the iSpot community, can individually and collectively act to Reimage. Recreate. Restore our ecosystems

Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay!
