iSpot will be unavailable for about an hour on Thursday morning - apologies for any inconvenience. This is to allow the latest round of updates to be applied to the site.
Once we're back up and running you should see:
- Home community: you will be able to choose a 'home community' that will remain associated with your iSpot account (unless you decide to change it in future); you will be able to click on the other communities and see everything in them as well, but your home community will be the one that you see each time you log on to iSpot.
- Species dictionaries for locations: when you go to "Add an Observation", the species dictionary you are offered will depend on the location of your observation, regardless of which community you are in. This should reduce the chances of names being chosen from the wrong dictionary for any given observation. To enable this, you will be asked to give the location before adding an identification as part of the Add an observation process.
- Species dictionary information: if you are browsing through the taxonomic hierarchy, you will see links in the 'breadcrumb' trail at the top of the page, showing which dictionary you are currently viewing, and giving more information on the dictionaries that iSpot uses.
We hope the updates will work smoothly, but let us know via the forums or our contact page if you encounter any problems.
