iSpot back online - new infrastructure implemented

As we informed you last week we started implementing the first stage of updates to the iSpot website infrastructure to help improve the user experience. To do this the site was offline on the weekend August 21 – 22 and unfortunately this downtime had to be extended into Monday, August 23. Again, thanks so much for your patience and we do apologise for any inconvenience this caused.

We are continuing to monitor performance and track any new user issues and if you would like to help by giving us feedback, read on to find out how to get involved!

Hopefully you will find that the site runs a bit quicker in most areas. We are aware that the filtering of the image carousels on the home page is still a bit slow and we are continuing to monitor performance and track any new user issues. If you would like to help by giving us feedback, please email: [email protected] to find out how to get involved!

We are planning several updates and additions to iSpot over the coming months and we need to make some changes to the infrastructure now to support these. We have been working hard to build and deliver a completely new infrastructure which will, over time, allow    us to breathe new life into iSpot. This is the first stage of a series of technical upgrades and developments which include design and accessibility improvements, query efficiency, updating the species dictionaries and security improvements. Further updates will be shared to keep you informed and you can also join the iSpot updates Forum discussion.
