  • This FAQ may be relevant to anyone who has an Open University computer user name (OUCU).
  • Please note that your OUCU is always in the form of your initials plus a short number (e.g. "abc123") - you may also have a longer "student identifier" (e.g. "A12345678") but this is NOT your OUCU and cannot be used to log in to iSpot!

If you have already registered on iSpot and created your own user name, you may later wish to link your iSpot account to an Open University user name (OUCU), for instance if you become an OU student. You should only need to set up the link once for it to be available in future.

To do this, go to iSpot and log out from your existing account. On the right of the page you should see a link "OU users log in here":

Click on that, and in the resulting box enter your Open University user name (OUCU):

This takes you to another web page that allows you to sign in to the OU website, and provide permission for your OU login to access iSpot - re-enter your OUCU and your OU password, and then click on the "Sign in" button:

You'll be asked if you wish to allow your OU profile to access iSpot - choose to allow this just once, or to always allow, and then click on the "Allow" button:

You should now be taken back to an iSpot page:

At the bottom of the above page, click on the link to "Link an existing iSpot Profile". You should now see a short form:
OUlogin6.png

This time, enter your original iSpot user name and password (not your OUCU), and then click on the "Associate" button.

You should now be taken back to the iSpot home page, with a message that your OUCU is now successfully linked:

Having made the association as described aboe, you can now log in to iSpot with either your original iSpot user name, or your OUCU, and iSpot will treat it as a single account.

If you need to check whether you have already linked your iSpot and OU accounts, or if you wish to remove the link between them, click on your user name menu at the top-left of the page, and choose "Profile":

From the tabs at the top of your Profile page, choose "OpenID identities":

If your iSpot account is already linked to your OUCU, you will see a row displaying the OUCU, similar to the above. If you wish to remove the link between your accounts, click on "Delete" under the "Operations" column in the row as shown above.

If you have any problems with this process please contact us.
