The great strength of iSpot is its community of enthusiastic people, all of whom share an interest in wildlife and how to identify it. If you are good at identifying even a few species, you’re in a position to help others who may just be starting to look for wildlife, or who may be knowledgeable about some species but not the same ones as you!

As soon as you are registered on iSpot you can start adding identifications to others’ observations, or agreeing with the identifications already made (see Identifications and agreements). Please do join in where you can - the more people who take part the wider is the pool of knowledge from which we can all learn.

If you are experienced in any particular group of wildlife and keen to help others, we can badge you as “Knowledgeable” or “Expert”. This means that your identifications and agreements will carry extra weight on iSpot and help give feedback to others.

If you’d like to be badged in this way, please contact us, letting us know which species groups you are knowledgeable about, and if possible giving us a brief note about what your level of experience is.

(And don’t forget that we can also provide badges that allow you to represent a natural history society or organisation – this type of badge is not linked to the identification process, but is intended to raise the profile of the many groups that support iSpot.)

Many thanks to all those who have taken part in identifying wildlife on iSpot over the years.
