A mating pair of metallic coloured beetles by canal water. I was trying to identify a bronze beetle I saw on a Yellow Flag leaf and remembered a shot I took 12 months ago at this same spot; and have posted this instead because it shows the colour variation of these beetles. I had guessed the single bronze specimen to be a 'Donacia' but learning about the colour variation, have tentatively put this as 'Plateumaris sericea'.
Leaf beetle adult found on pendulous sedge by mature small garden pond. Other vegetation present includes Typha, yellow flag iris, pond weeds, water mint, purple loosestrife, water violet, greater spearwort, yellow loosestrife.
I didn't have a better picture in my previous sequence but I here are three images of a beetle that looks like Donacia - again from an area near a pond.
