Absolutely amazing to see how they are coming up after the fire; they are literally almost everywhere! It looks like a grass lawn that is coming up. Can we expect a mass flowering the first year after this burn? Or not?

Description:

Resprouting 11 weeks after fire. The burnt flowerheads now made them easy to see. The young leaves are hairy.

Re sprouting ground Protea with needle like leaves with a channel. Seems to have been scorched during the January fire. Just this one plant at this spot. Redlisted. No particular threats atm.

Description:

At last I see them in flower!
Growing in and beside a firebreak. They seem to like the rocky areas. The reed-like leaves are rough and channelled. Young leaves are hairy.
Redlisted as Vulnerable.
Many plantsspread out over the area, 50 - 100 (or more).
Threats: Pines and hakea.

Some of the buds had been subject to the same sort of boring fate as these P. lorea buds in HNR:

Young flower bud about 30 mm. Tufts of narrow channelled leaves with sandpapery texture. Pic 3 shows dead flower. This observation was in the same area in October http://www.ispot.org.za/node/223780. So November might be the best time to see them in full bloom.

Rough narrow leaves are channelled and about 20 cm tall. Flowerhead about 90 mm. P scabra is not on our list for this location so I first thought it was P lorea, but the sandpapery leaves point to scabra.
