Description:

A dense bushy shrub to small tree with long narrow grey-green leaves and terminal sprays of minute white to creamy flowers. The stem can be upright, or twisted and fluted in larger specimens. The leaves are narrowly elliptic and the base and apex tapering. The leaves are softly leathery and densely covered on the underside with white scales. The narrower leaves allow the False-olive to tolerate the drier habitats. A branchlet is square, scaly, with grey to pale grey-brown bark, rough and finely fissured.

Description:

Stormy Hill, Boston

Toss up between S. kuntzei, S. nigrens and S. sessilis

  • Both 6 flowered
  • kuntzei has rounder leaves
  • I see no stalks on leaves which favours kuntzie.
  • Flowering could be either
  • But glandular flowers not so marked, favours nigricans.
  • Edge of both distributions

The leaves rule out S. nigrens. No data in Pooley:KZN about S. sessilis .

Might be S. kuntzei.

CREW, Dicotyledons, Indigenous, LAMIACEAE, Least Concern, Stachys kunzei
