Description:

the track side 'rock' (small lump of road surface conglomerate) had a spider on one side and a sheet web attached to the other but were they associated? Initially I assumed so but now I'm not so sure as the spider is possibly a free runner and the web has accumulated a fine cover of debris so perhaps it's not in use anyway.

Description:

same species as http://www.ispotnature.org/node/799078 , observed previously at the same location, but this time the spider was more obliging plus my new camera takes much better close-ups. The sandy coloured abdomen is well camouflaged but the white legs clearly standout against the red soil, especially when the spider moves. I'm moving toward the opinion that this spider may be a red morph of the dark grey Zenonina albocaudata. The white spot above or behind the spinnerets is clearly visible in this observation.

Description:

small spider between 3 & 4mm in length with a very distinctive, truncated, heart-shaped abdomen and long narrow appendages at the head end; the legs are a striking white, which fits the description of the genus Zenonina (ADS(2014) p.334. Determining a species is a little more difficult as the current specimen has a sandy brown abdomen rather than dark grey to black one. It does have a large white spot below corresponding to the description of Z. albocaudata.

Description:

A fairly small baboon spider (length from chelicerae to tip of abdomen: approx. 3-4cm) found in a silk lined tunnel under a large stone. Its colour appeared more brown in the shade of its burrow, but under the flash it came out as a rich, shiny gold. I searched for an example with similar colouration, but those species with golden brown bodies always seem to have the same colour on at least the first leg segment as well. Three other baboon spiders were seen on the same day, but none with such uniform and striking colouration of the abdomen and cephalothorax.

Description:

This little jumping spider measuring 2.5-3mm almost had me fooled. She played her part as an ant extremely well and did not jump once during my photographing her. her running motion was a little staccato though which is the only thing that made me spot her as a jumper in the field. She waved her front pair of legs above her head to mimic antennae.
