On summer nights the Gutturals come out of the shrubbery in great numbers to open areas (driveway, paved paths, bare spots in the lawns, etc) - to evade snakes, hunt and, in damp areas, to drink by absorbing water through their belly skin. We have to sweep the drive by torchlight when going out - and especially coming home - at night as they rely heavily on their camouflage and tend to freeze when danger, like a tyre, rolls in. Here's a random selection of the fellows ranging from 10 to 100mm in size.
