Unknown flowering shrub

Description:

Flower reminiscent of Hawthorn, but as shown in the foliage image the shrub has no thorns. Bush was evidently highly attractive to butterflies as it was covered in Meadow Browns and a few Small Tortoiseshells, all drawing nectar from the flowers. Can anyone identify the shrub please.
