Amazing spiney trunked tree at the side of the road in San Remo, Italy.
Any idea what it is?

Ceiba pentandra and Bombax ceiba are both cultivated in south Florida, so they have a little resistance to frost.
Pachira aquatica is another spiny-trunked tree.
We can only see a small portion of trunk but if the base was swollen it could be Ceiba speciosa, the White Silk Floss tree - there is a magnificent specimen in the Jardin Exotique in Monaco, not that far from San Remo.
