Hardiness

Ceiba pentandra and Bombax ceiba are both cultivated in south Florida, so they have a little resistance to frost.

Pachira aquatica is another spiny-trunked tree.

We can only see a small

We can only see a small portion of trunk but if the base was swollen it could be Ceiba speciosa, the White Silk Floss tree - there is a magnificent specimen in the Jardin Exotique in Monaco, not that far from San Remo.
