Description:

Red-brown, sometimes spotted, caps up to around 6 cm in diameter. Tough, rather fibrous stipe, usually swollen in the middle (though i should have chosen a better specimen to illustrate this!) and conspicuously grooved (shown). The stems felt hollow when squeezed and many were rather flattened - as opposed to round.
Several dense clusters of these fruiting bodies observed at the base of Oak Quercus robur.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
