Description:

Tall(up to 40m) unusual tree.Mature trees have tall, straight trunks and an umbrella of branches at the crown. Young trees have a ‘christmas tree’ shape, with branches on the lower parts of the trunk which are later shed.The bark is greyish-brown and can be up to eight centimetres thick. The horizontal branches emerge from the trunk in whorls,and they are covered in scale-like leaves all year round.Dioecious.Native to Argentina and Chile where they grow on the lower slopes of the Andes at altitudes above 1000m.Cultivated throughout the world for their distinctive and unusual appearance,
