The guys in that thread are going to lengths I've not reached yet. Maybe one day.
As far I can work out Hymenoscyphus fagineus is a synonym for Phaeohelotium fagineum rather than a distinct species.
I'd welcome any more info or links on the correct naming.
I identified mine from Jordan's book on fungi but it may be out of date so your may be the new name I will have a look on the ABFG cate data base
