Anyone else think this could be a Goshawk?
I'm guessing not, but photo 1 looks way too bulky for a Sprawk. Plumage seems good too.
Just too much of a chicken to put up the ID!
It occurred to me, too. The second picture does not look like it, though...being rather shallow in the chest. I don't think that either picture shows a long enough wing for Goshawk either. Often difficult from a photo though.

Thanks, Browntrumpet. I'm not 100% because I have no scale (I can't tell how far away it was). What I think was the same bird was back today (checking out the birdtable from on high, I think). Its tail is dead straight with a square end - I'll post it as a new observation under Sparrowhawk and see if any of the experts disagree.
If it was checking out the birdtable, it is a Sparrowhawk. Goshawks are birds of the forest and wetlands, not of gardens.
