Very hard genus to identify to species level without microscopy and chemical tests.

Doesn't look like a Russula

Doesn't look like a Russula to me. It has intermediate gills, a purple tint to the stipe, and a slightly scaly cap cuticle. I'd put that down as a Cortinarius. Did you make a spore print?

Key

It does have all the key features for plums and custard I have found some as dark as this before.
