A common fly in hedgerows, often seen clambering quickly about

What camera/lenses combo are you using?
canon 550d with canon 100mm f2.8, a common set-up used on ispot I think. As it's a crop sensor the 100mm is 160mm, so difficulties with depth of field, and a fly this size I'm about a foot and a half away. The auto-focus seems to like some flies more than others
It's my first slr and I plug away on the setting that ChrisBrooks advised some time ago, sometimes it delivers decent results if I take enough pictures. I wouldn't mind the L equivalent though
