Wood Pigeon Chick?

Description:

This morning these two chicks were lying dead on the ground. They seem far too undeveloped for this time of the year. I don't know where they came from, the Ash trees above seem to small to accommodate any large nest. It was wet and windy the day before.

Nest

You would be surprised how small a woodpigeon's nest can be and it is a very flimsy affair normally, little more than a twiggy platform.

They are multi brooded and often lay eggs well into September with young recorded fledging as late as early December. Given the strong winds we’ve just had it’s perhaps not surprising this late (probably third brood) came to an untimely end.
