Description:

These are mushrooms growing under my silver birch. The large one is about 20cm across and about 15 cm tall. They do not have gills so think they are Boletus. The spores are brown.

Are these good to eat?

Can anyone give a positive identification? Have looked in Roger Phillips but can not get certain identification.

It might be Brown Birch

It might be Brown Birch Bolete Leccinium scabrum - old specimen. Please read iSpot warning about using this site to identfy 'edible' fungi

The more I know the more I realise I don't know

agreed

I would agree with Mark that it may be Brown Birch Bolete and also that ispot is not a site for identifying edible fungi.
