Description:

An unusually hairy Dung fly of upland areas, found in wet areas of bogs with Marsh Lousewort. Posted in relation to earlier postings of Scathophagids. Apologies for poor pictures!

have you watched them enough to get any notion of what the hairs might be for? Much was made of their apparent lack of use, for display etc

Unfortunately not...I have never found enough to enable that. One for the future, perhaps. The date is wrong, incidentally...early August 2012, as I remember.
