I think Phil is right here ...

... at least about there being two species involved. I wasn't happy about the foliage, but I had assumed that it was all one Galium, and put the glossy appearance of the foliage down to an artefact of photography.

It still looks rather straggly for Galium album (Stace applies Galium mollugo to the diploid cytotype, not known from Britain, but possibly overlooked), but it is said to be a variable species (which I haven't seen often). On the other hand, I can't offer a plausible alternative, so I suppose it must be this.
