Fungus on oak limb

Observed: 5th October 2013 By: Steve_VSteve_V’s reputation in Fungi and LichensSteve_V’s reputation in Fungi and Lichens

About 3cms across, quite of few of these growths are emerging from the limb of an oak tree that dropped off the tree last year. They seem to like the shady side. Recently emerged, so they may grow bigger I suppose. Ideas?

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
