I hope you enjoyed Islay. I posted a Merveille du Jour by chance immediately after you posted this one. Despite the separation of our locations by the Atlantic Ocean, our Merveille du Jour sites are only 40 miles apart.
Hi Cathal, yes always do, Islay is an annual pilgrimage. Lots of geese and a few inverts. I'll look for your green and black gem.
I havent been to Islay, well havent been onto it, have been very close in the boat. I can see it very easily from the north Antrim coast, the Paps of Jura are easily seen beyond the eastern end of Islay fro here. Here's this other MdJ-
Its a vast island when you take a look at it on the map. Ive been to Mull, thats the only Hebridean island I've been on and of course Rathlin Island due south of Islay which feels like the Hebrides when youre on it.
A magical place Cathal, I've only missed one year since 1984. On Wednesday 30,000 Barnacle Geese arrived in 12 hours! We also spent the best part of a day watching three White-tailed Eagles hunting them over Bridgend flats. Epic views of Golden eagle etc, and good mothing. With the added bonus of all those malt whiskies.
