Mystery Pond invertebrate

Observed: 9th October 2013 By: Beth Coleman

Description:

Can anyone help identify this invertebrate? It looks like a blob of transparent 'jelly' but there is a tube/ worm inside that wriggles about and occasionally either extends out of the end of the 'jelly' or comes out completely and moves around on its own- is it some sort of fly larvae? Would be very grateful for any help on this!

  • unsure (unsure)
Confidence: It's likely to be this, but I can't be certain.

Not a chance...

I'm afraid I can't even tell what I'm looking at, there - is it the vaguely sausage-shaped, pale brown thing? The image is too blurred to see any detail (the bubbles not only obscure it, unfortunately they've also stolen the focus), but I'd assume it's some sort of larva, possibly of something like a cranefly. If you've got any more pictures that might help..?
