Flightless, approx. 3-4mm length, colony, comes up through hole in soil, dark brown / almost black in appearance, couple had suggestion of lighter band on abdomen
Soil under turf is sandy.
Query is twofold - actual identification
- food source, would they eat the roots of the grass of the green (Groundsman twitchy !)
I wondered if they were Dyschirius Globosus ??
