... which is what they call this group in North America. This species is a recent arrival from Europe, where it arrived some years ago from across the Atlantic. In Canada it is regarded as a serious pest, not just by foresters but also by the public as it comes into houses in large numbers to hibernate.

Did this come to light, or did you just stumble across it? There are very few records of it yet in the wild - it's almost always seen when entering buildings or moth traps.
