... the latest DNA research concluded that the Highland Darter is just a darker form of the Common Darter. I was given a copy of the paper but I seem to have misplaced it, sadly. It's also sad, for me anyway, that it isn't a separate species. :(
Pity we can't see the side of the thorax to see if this individual has the dark-outlined windows in the thorax side panel, which seems to be where the Highland differs from a "regular" S. striolatum.
