That wasn't originally a Mallard, apparently. Some think they're ugly, but I rather like them. (The feeling is often not mutual, they can be a bit aggressive!)
The duck may be ugly, but the ducklings were - predictably - very cute!
These 'ugly' - come on only a female Muscovy could love a face like a male's - ducks are native to Central America, slipping over the border into the very south of North America and the North of South America. Even daring to enter that great duck-shooting state of Texas, though only on one small wetland reserve. In the wild they are declining and the Mexicans have been trying to increase numbers with a nest box and breeding programme.

Thanks so much for this interesting info, Graham. Why are they called 'Muscovy'? Sounds like they ought to come from Moscow!
