Description:

Although I don't usually intervene between hunter and prey, I assisted the escape of a hoverfly which had landed in a spider's web; it subsequently rested on my hand for long enough to permit me to photograph it. Eristalis sp, but I'd appreciate any help in identifying which one: nemorum? or arbustorum? or another sp?

The angles of these

The angles of these photographs are not ideal and therefore any ID will be quite tentative. I think the best one can say is either E. nemorum or E. arbustorum. In neither shot is the stigma of the wing fully depicted and the hind tarsi are not clear.
