Distinctive fungus

Observed: 22nd September 2013 By: Steve_VSteve_V’s reputation in Fungi and LichensSteve_V’s reputation in Fungi and Lichens
Volvariella gloiocephala 5

Very distinctive cone-shaped fungus - there were maybe 5 in a group in rough grass in semi-shade under mixed conifer and broadleaf trees on sandy acid soil. Gills the same colour as the cap and stem, no discernable smell. A couple a days later the cap had opened slightly but was still distinctly conical or dome-shaped - not flat at all. Ideas?

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
