Description:

Over the past couple of days a few square metres of our front lawn (more moss and dandelion than grass) has been covered with several dozen bees, moving rapidly either on or an inch or so above the surface. Think they're Colletes sp, but not sure which. Hedera? (some ivy on nearby walls, but not flowering). Don't think they were here last year, but we'd only just moved in and my attention may have been focussed elsewhere.
