Description:

Saturday was fairly damp and gloomy and not really hoverfly-watching weather, but I noticed this Helophilus on flowers in the garden, and it looked somehow different. It turned out to be H. trivittatus, first time I've seen it in here, and the first time I've seen it anywhere since 1999. I guess the moral is that you should always watch out for unusual insects whatever the weather!
