There was quite a few of these carterpillars (8-10 cm long) on the ground next to a one year old stack of spruce timber. They were feeding on the leaves of the gras and the herbs

Macrothylacia rubi - Fox moth

In Denmark the Macrothylacia rubi is known as the "Blackberry moth". There are extensive areas containing blackberries close to the finding place, and having looked at the other observations I completely agree: This is a Fox moth caterpillar. Thank you for your help
