Orangey fungal(?) growth on rotten wood in our back garden. It was spongey and the dark area is where I poked it to see what was inside.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Slime mould

Its probably the remains (spores and crust) of the myxomycete Enteridium lycoperdon. Has a chcolately colour spore mass once the whiteness of the earlier stages passes.
