Description:

Large bracket fungus growing between the buttress roots of an old beech tree. Sounds woody when hit. It was so tough I couldn't break off a sample. Photo 1 shows a £1 coin for scale.
Surrounding area was covered in brown spores. (Why don't they stick to the white areas of the fungus or have they all washed off in recent rain?)

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
