Description:

Found dead, floating on the surface of the upland lake at Bugeilyn Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. There are unique black-finned trout in Bugeilyn, but I believe this to be an 'ordinary' Brown Trout.

Hi Tamasine..

I think the trout of which you write is Salmo Nigripinnis (the Welsh black-finned trout)a name that was bestowed upon it in the late 19th century and later discredited, only to be reinstituted in the later part of the 20th century. It is also the scientific name for other black long finned trout in Ireland, namely the Sonaghan of lough Melvin.
I am writing this off the top of my head, but I think it's correct.
