Bracket on apple

This was growing on an old apple tree. The fungus was cool, but it also seemed to have a gnat-like species associated with it. The fungus had holes in the underside that were dripping clear liquid, which small gnat-like flies were maybe feeding on. These flies might have made the orangey silk that you can also just about see in the picture.

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
