Robberfly seen eating a hoverfly. It's the robberfly I would like identified, if possible.
No interactions present.
A female, but to get to species you really need more photos, including a lateral shot showing the hairs on the sternites, the colour of the legs, and a clearer view of the face...etc. They are surprisingly difficult to ID from a photo, bearing in mind their large size.

OK, thanks Ian. I suspected that might be the case actually because I saw previous posts of robberflies.
So, it's safe to say Machimus sp. then?
That would certainly be true! I am on the careful side here. But i'm pretty sure there is no other option then M atricapillus.
