All found on leaves of yellow iris at edge of a woodland pond. Saw the blue one first, then the yellow (thought it was another species) and then the pair! These resemble the Donacia vulgaris in my field guide, but this is described as green or brassy in colour. Is this another species in the same genus?

Species with which a reed beetle (Plateumaris sericea) interacts

Some Donacia species can be very variable in colour, particularly the metallic ones. Going by the "purple" colour of the male, I think this might actually be a species from the closely related genus Plateumaris, but I'd need to check the undersides to be sure.

Removed my agreement for Donacia having looked at the genus suggested by Matt. (I think I recall reading that's what you are supposed to do when you change your mind!)
