Description:

This is puzzling. The Egret at the back looks a good bit larger that the other one. What's going on? Two possibilities occur to me: male and female, or adult and juvenile. Which it is, of something entirely different, I have no idea.
They're certainly both Little Egrets - yellow feet confirm that.

Good Question

Though there is apparently no difference between the sexes Colins gives the size range as 55-65 cm and this is backed up at www.ibercajalav.net/img/41_LittleEgretEgarzetta.pdf (the BTO split the difference and give one figure of 60 cm). 10 cm is quite a bit it relative terms so perhaps we are seeing two birds one at either end of the spectrum.

Hi Ray

I should have thought of that - simple dimorphism. Just a big'un and a little'un.

Thanks
