Parasitized Caterpillar

Observed: 27th August 2013 By: David Lea
DSC05987
Description:

Initially this appeared to be a caterpillar laying eggs but knowing this could not be the case, I'm presuming the caterpillar has been parasitized and the parasitic larvae are emerging? The caterpillar did appear to be very much alive which was surprising if the larvae had been feeding off it?

You are right, I think -

Looks like a Large White: a number of wasps of various families prey on them.
