I think the black dots are there they just don't show up too well on the full size picture. Have a look at the thumbnail, what do you think?

Invisible dots

The moth is only slightly worn so they should be visible. Try and find another Small Square Spot photo without them.

Looking at my imagined dots again, they would be slightly in the wrong place anyway. Agreeing with you now.

I would agree with that ID too

The lack of the small dots and the general pattern suggests Square-spot Rustic to me. Would be interesting to hear from some of those who have agreed with the Small Square SPot ID what convinced them.
